Modern Superstar’s ‘Zo’ Interviewed

What is your musical background?
I am basically a self taught player. I took lessons for 2 years, when I was 9 & 10. Then I jammed with guys that where older and better. I took what they were showing me andModern Superstar's Lorenzo 'Zo' Del Vecchio Interviewed practiced in my basement, playing for hours everyday, right after school! When I got older I played in a couple semi-successful local bands on the south side of Chicago! One was a band called “Fatal Image” with Steve “Fuzz” Kamack. The original bass player from “Disturbed”!

When and why did you start playing?
I saw Kiss in 1979, the “KISS ALIVE II” tour & lost my mind! I knew then what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!
What was the first tune(s) you learned?
Jingle  Bells, but my first rock song was “Smoke on the Water” (LOL)!
Who are your favorite musicians, groups?
It’s hard to mention just one or two with my background so here they are: Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Roads, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Zakk Wilde & George Lynch.
How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
Keep playing and don’t allow that mistake to translate to the audience!
How often and for how long do you practice?
Everyday from 1 to 4 hours a day!
Let’s talk your new project, Modern Superstar…
You are one of the newest members in Modern Superstar. How were you selected, what was your audition like, when did you know you locked the job down?
It was basically fate! I had my fb page hacked and I was locked out of it! So, I started a new page and my drummer Ryche Green was one of the 1st people that came up to add me as a friend. I was also in a transition period , no band! I was going to go home to Chicago and go to culinary school, to become a chef but Ryche popped up. We knew each other from when I tour managed for the Bulletboys. Ryche was playing drums for them at the time. So I hit him up and it just so happened the were looking to replace their guitarist! So, I basically learned the  tunes, took a Greyhound bus to Ohio, to audition. There was some pressure because from the day I auditioned, the band had a gig in 4 days!
But I was all in from the beginning! I came in and it just gelled right from the 1st note with the guys. The band was also auditioning a new bass player at the same time. We played our 1st show together on June 16th 2012 and here we are!
What position do you hold in the band?
Lead guitarist and vocals
How long have you been with the band?
6 months
How has touring been with the band?
I’m having had a blast touring with Modern Superstar. Great guys to be around on and off the stage.
How well does the band get along? It’s no secret that there have been a lot of member changes over the years.
The band is 5 brother’s playing and doing what we all love to do! The new line is the best line up since the inception of the band!
What are your expectations for Modern Superstar?
To write a new record and show the world what we got!
What are the current plans for Modern Superstar?
We are in the process of finding a new lead singer while write and record a new batch of tunes. Then tour as much as we can to share our music with the world!
What does 2013 hold for the band?
I expect great things for the band! We did a lot of leg work with this new line up. Plus, in the last 6 months, we’ve met some great news contacts and are ready to proceed with an amazing 2013!
