Modern Superstar’s Tommy Milan Interviewed

What is your musical background?

I grew up in a musical family, my dad playing guitar in the basement of friends houses, and me falling asleep on the couch at the age of 8 to Elvis songs and Proud Mary by Tommy MilanCCR.

At what age did you start playing music

I started playing guitar around 16,and wanting to be in a band, thought it was super cool.

What was the first tune(s) you learned?

Vocally it was ‘Live Wire’ by Motley Crue , Poison tunes and Kiss.

Who are your favorite musicians, groups?

Growing up in Columbus Ohio, you definitely liked the standard ABC’s of rock at the time like  AC/DC , Cult, Motley Crue, Van Halen, and all that but I also like Lenny Kravitz and Prince.

How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

Be professional and move on.

How often and for how long do you practice?

Well, that’s a good question. I write and play acoustic every day but it’s really hard to sing hard rock without the band cranked to 10, so as often as possible when we’re not recording.
Let’s talk your new project, Modern Superstar…

You are the newest member in Modern Superstar. How were you selected, what was your audition like, when did you know you locked the job?

Became friends with the guys when my old band Afterlife played a gig with them and Great White. Ryche approved me about trying out we did some rehearsing and then the rest of the band came down and we locked it. Its been very good.

Are you involved in the new recordings?

Yes, I do a lot of writing. ‘Love Is Crazy’ which I believe is going to be our second single, is one I wrote that has a major groove and a good vibe.

How are the new songs coming?

Great! We just tracked our first single ‘Dirty Girl’ which went well, ‘Love Is Crazy’ is next. We’re recording with Stet Howland Ex W.A.S.P., Lita Ford) here in Ft. Myers, FL. The recording sessions are going great and we have a really good thing going here.

Share a good road story with us…

Going to create them this summer, LOL

What are your expectations for Modern Superstar? What are the current plans for Modern Superstar?

Well, I’d say a lot. It’s all about the music, if people like the tunes then off we go if they don’t well it could get a little tough, LOL! But we want to create killer music and hopefully get on some big shows this summer.

What does 2013 hold for the band?

Creating music, memories and going on the road and have all the fun that we can!
